Lessons Learned By Working With Plants

Just the other day, I was looking back at my journey and thinking of all the valuable lessons I have learned by the fortune of working with plants. Today, I want to share these lessons with you all. In 2017, I started giving plants as gifts and soon after, got into balcony decor work. Then came big corporate clients who wanted plantscaping for office walls and terrace décor with greens where I got both design and build opportunities.

My favourite “Plantfluencer” Alice Vincent says, “There’s something deeply moving about seeing something germinate, flower or even go to seed.” In her interview with BBC, Vincent said, “There’s a real joy to be found in new growth or the return of a favourite perennial plant through the soil after a long, dark winter. I find the seasonal change of plants and the wider natural world around is something that helps to guide me in my everyday life. Gardening is also something very meditative for me.”

Vincent’s thoughts echo my own. In my experience of working with plants too, the most important lesson I learned is to be patient with my own growth, much like that of any plant roots, leaves, or flowers. Another lesson learned is that nature doesn’t limit itself, so neither do I have to. I can take up as much space as I want to, growing as tall, wide, or wild as needed—like a vine!

Finally, plants are also teaching me a valuable demand-supply lesson. Over the past couple of years, people in metros are realizing the importance of houseplants and plant styling. More and more of us are choosing greens for balcony and terrace decor and are surrounding ourselves with greens for solace. This collective interest in plants is also helping us at WeDecor8 understand the urgency of branching out to include planters, balcony and terrace plants, green walls and moss walls, and plant-related corporate gifting.

All in all, I’ve come to realize that plants are an integral part of my personal life, and the fact that they add not only goodness but the same values to all our clients’ lives is the belief that WeDecor8 is founded on. Looking at these beauties every day, I remind myself that it’s alright to be imperfect and grow, wither, and rise again.
